This is a 1/4 liter capacity stein by Reinhold Merkelbach. The 1/4 liter capacity indicates this stein was produced for a child.
The decor is of a gnome drinking from a Hofbrau stein. Below the picture is a banner with the saying :"Die Kehl kost veel", which I freely translate as "Drinking does not come cheap".
The decoration is in the so-called etched technique, which usually indicates that such a stein was produced in an economical sensible quantity, and that it would also usually carry a mold number.
The pictured stein however is not marked with a mold number. It could be they simply forgot to put it on during production.
The capacity mark is placed on the front of the stein, which is indicative of earlier productions, circa 1885 rather than 1900.
