A stein, produced by Reinhold Merkelbach [link]
Design date of this stein: 1888 ~1890.
This stein commemorates that Austrian emperor Franz Joseph (Karl) I had been emperor of Austria for 40 year. He was emperor of Austria from 1848 until 1916.
The stein portraits the emperor as he looked in 1848 and as he looked in 1888 (on the two side panels). On the front panel we see the personal crest of emperor Franz Joseph I. Underneath the crest is the phrase "Viribus unitis", which was his parole.
