A fantastic large bicycle stein, produced by Merkelbach & Wick, circa 1900.
The stein features a very detailed and beautiful scene of a sportsman riding a bicycle. The texts on the scene are "Frohen Mut, Frisch voran, fröhlich Herz schafft gute Bahn.". There is also a very nice cartouche on the left bottom side of the decor with the texts 'Deutscher Radfahrer Bund' and 'All Heil'.
On the right bottom side is a red and white shield. It is the shield or crest of the city of Koblenz, a major German city on the banks of the river Rhine, not far from the westerwald area.
This beautiful stein has a capacity of 3 liters. It stands 40 centimeters tall including its ornate pewter lid. The body itself is 27.3 centimeters high and at the base has a diameter of 14.5 centimeters.
