An ornately painted Swedish tankard.
The wooden tankard is made from pine, and has a naive decoration painted on it. This type of wooden tankard has been made in Scandinavia throughout the centuries, and are still being produced today for the souvenir industry.
This wooden stein measures 16cm to the top of the rim, 19.3cm to the tip of the handle. The base diameter is ca 14cm and the weight is 381 grammes.
It was made in the 19th century, possibly circa 1850. It is thought that the painted decoration is of a later date, possibly the 1950's.
