A very nice stein, produced in 1893 by Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach, Germany.
This tapestry stein, model 1647, has a capacity of 1/2 liter (a 1 liter version also exists). The decoration on the front of this beer stein features a man holding his stein aloft. It's quite obvious he's a man who knows his way with a beer or two, judging from the size of his belly!
As an added bonus to this stein, the lid is not the standard pewter lid that one would expect to find on this stein. In fact it is a pewter lid with a porcelain inset, with a phrase: 'vivat der Bierbrauer!' (long live the beer brewer!). That lid makes this a so-called occupational stein.
On the back of this 1/2 liter capacity stein is another phrase: 'Wer nicht liebt, trinkt und Singt, es nie zu wahrer Freude bringt'. (He who does not love, drink and sing, will never find true joy).
