This is a nice jug bij Reinhold Merkelbach, produced for the carnaval festivities in Cologne (Köln). The model is a fun-version of the traditional Bellarmine (bearded men) jugs that have been produced in and around Cologne since the 1600's.
On this model, the traditional bearded face on the neck of the jug has been replaced by a long-nosed face, in the true spirit of carnaval festivities!
The verse on the body of the jug reads: "GECK-LOSS-GECK-ELANS", and both on the front as on the back it reads: "Alaaf Koelle". (Alaaf is a traditional greeting during carnaval).
