A rare stein by producer Rheinische Porzellanmanufaktur L. Herrmann [link] . This producer has been working from circa 1861 until about 1905. This particular stein probably dates from around 1890-1900.
This porcelain stein has a lithophane base with a difference: it has been coloured in with paint to make it a full-color lithophane. Only few steins are known to have this feature, making this stein a very rare piece indeed.
Ronald Gray has written an article about this type of lithophane [link]
Another uncommon feature with this stein is that the capacity mark (1/2L) is painted on the inside of the stein instead of on the usual position on the outside.
All in all an exceptional stein which I happily added to my collection.
