An unusual stein produced by Reinhold Merkelbach: it is not marked with a mold number, only the Merkelbach 'star'.
Furthermore it is glazed on the inside like is common with Villeroy & Boch steins, but not with merkelbach steins.
The inside of the pewter lid is fully marked with the pewterer's information: "Metallwaaren Erzeuger Joh. Steggmann Sohne Budweis fur Zinn und Kunstguss Schilder, Buchstaben, Marken".
Dated 1895 on the lid.
