The scene on this souvenir type stein by Reinhold Merkelbach is a relief of 2 men sitting at a tavern table, drinking their beers and playing a game of cards.
This stein has a verse on the side panels, which can be in English or in German. The English version was obviously meant for export, and it reads: "We drink To-day without a Sorrow and then we carry on To-morrow".
On the German language version the verse reads: "Trink aus mit Freuden und halte dich bescheiden", which roughly means the same as the English verse.
Reinhold Merkelbach produced this stein in the second half of the 20th century. It was massproduced for the German tourist industry and nowadays can often be found on fleamarkets around the world and on online auctions. Its collectible value is low.
