Hard to notice in my pictures, but if you look closely in the lower left side of beer barrel, you will see the two Towers of the Frauenkirche down below on earth.
Beautiful Münchner Kindl design holding up high, not one, but two masskrugs, while sitting on a beer barrel from the “UBM” brauerei, atop the clouds!!
Unions Bräu München “UBM”
Maker and age:
Impressed Merkelbach & Wick Grenzhausen roundel on base.
c. 1879-1921. I think probably closer to 1890s - 1905. I welcome your opinion.
A short quote from Löwenbräu Brewery on de.wiki. See link below.
“In 1921, Löwenbräu merged with Unionsbräu Schülein & Cie and Munich Bürgerbräu, two other breweries. These mergers brought Löwenbräu more property, including the Bürgerbräukeller.”
I found very little information on Unions-Brau - Unionsbrau, so I turned to ChatGPT for possible greater insight on UBM.
ChatGPT had this to say:
Foundation and Early History:
“The brewery was founded in 1885 by Joseph Schülein under the company name Unionsbrauerei Schülein & Cie. in the legal form of an Aktiengesellschaft. It quickly became one of the largest breweries in Munich until the turn of the 20th century.”
Transition and Acquisition:
“In 1905, the Münchner Kindl-Brauerei was taken over, and in 1921, the brewery merged with the Münchner Aktienbrauerei to become part of Löwenbräu. As part of this merger, certain beer brands such as “Triumphator” and “Hellquell” were incorporated into the Löwenbräu portfolio.”
Post-Merger History:
“The brewery’s former buildings remain, with parts of the facility being used for cultural purposes today. The name “Unionsbrauerei” continues through a gaststätte (public house) that has undergone several name changes over the years. The venue has experienced various ownership changes and even legal disputes in recent years.”
I welcome and appreciate any additional information about this brewery and/or the steinkrug. Thanks.
