Augustiner-Bräeu Munchen.
I have multiple Augustiner-Bräu steinkrugs because of course this brewery is awesome!!! It has amazing history, culture, traditions, Oktoberfest beer tent, and of course, BEER!!! They also have an awesome bier garten, one of Munich’s largest.
Fun fact: Since 1987, the Augustiner Brewery is the only brewery at the Oktoberfest that still serves beer exclusively from wooden barrels. Nice to see Augustiner-Bräu is keeping this tradition alive.
The M&W Gr. roundel dates this stein between 1879 to 1921. I think with further research and learning, I’ll be able to date more precisely. The capacity mark, the number “2” is very distinct. The initials “JW” help with a NET date. The beer handle.
I believe the lid is original but why is the word “BRAEU” on face of stein spelled different than on the lid, “BRAU”? Lid designer not paying attention to detail, or some other reason? I need to check my other Augustiner steins to see if the same disparity exists??
As always, I welcome and appreciate your feedback and comments.
