Spalter Hopfen Sirgelrecht. Steinkrug

Wick Werke

From the collection of Jorge O. Soriano

Spalter Hopfen Sirgelrecht.

Zur a die Jubilaumstagung der Deutschen Hopfenbauern Spalt 1938 ***** “ To the anniversary meeting of the German hop growers Spalt 1938”

IN***SPALT***SECRETVM***CIVIUM (I have no idea what this means?)

Beautiful colors of the hops vines

0,5 l & calibration marks. Notice the liter mark is a stylized cursive lower case “l”. Most I see are upper case “L”. I’m not sure if there is a reason for this? Help with dates?

VITUSHERB PLANEGG MUNCHEN | I am guessing the pewter maker is VITUSHERB and the location is Planegg is a municipality in the district of Munich, in Bavaria.

Why is “34” impressed twice?

Wick Werke mark for 1921-1937. I’m not sure if the 34 means made in 1934, but that would work for this Werke.

See bottom of page to confirm maker’s mark

Spalter Hopfen Sirgelrecht.

This one has special meaning for me as Spalt was a town I frequently visited and loved. I think I picked this one up at one of their frequent weekend “Floh-Markt” — flea markets. Live folk German music, brats and other local food, beer, and stands or small tents selling lots of cool and interesting German items. But I had laser eyes focused on finding cool and special steins, like this one!

Very early Wick Werke stein. See images.
