Stoneware Masskrug / Maßkrug
Beautiful woman with blue eyes and interesting headwear painted on the porcelain inlay. I really enjoy these portraits of the ladies from that era. Perhaps a wife or girlfriend of a stein’s owner?
Presumably the owner’s initials and surname “Ch Merx” or possibly “Gh Merx” are engraved on lid with fancy lettering. These type letters are difficult for me to decipher sometimes.
1L and calibration mark deeply incised (front and center) of stein.
Stein in very good condition for its age. The lid does have a bit of looseness, but is firmly affixed to the hinge.
c. Early 1900s
I always like to look at these woman and try to guess what their dress wear and headwear, including jewelry and setting, tells us about them. For example, what does this lady’s headwear, dress, bracelet and the fence say about her?
