Picked this wooden stein up cheap, but it needed some fixing and a real good cleaning. It was made for George Wagner in 1895, he was a Braumeister in Nurnberg. It was probably dropped and the top of the handle that "looks like a thumb lift" was broken. There are crudely scratched cursive initials on the bottom GLA? The carved lid is beautiful and I was surprised the bottom of the handle is all cut out and it's not broken after 130 years. It's 9-3/4" to the top of the finial. Side by side with a 2L Pepsi I would think it would hold 2L if it wasn't all dried out and full of open seems.
