This German stein has a uniquely hand-painted floral design, which would have added cheer to an otherwise plain stoneware body. The lid has a scallop-shaped thumb-lift and is engraved 'G. Th. H.' and the number '3'. It is likely to have been the third of a number of steins in use in a Gasthaus / Gasthof. This one was purchased from Metten near Deggendorf in eastern Bavaria, on the edge of the Bayerischer Wald (Bavarian Forest).
