This early lion design with a ‘dashed’ form of rectangular border is made from a thick application of cobalt paint. The logo is therefore clearly raised from the surface of the stein (unlike later versions from the mid-C20th which have smooth logo application). It also has a crudely, hand-incised capacity mark, typical of these early examples.
This one looks like it has seen some beerhall parties its past, giving it plenty of character.
