This should be viewed with another, similar stein I have listed here [link] Steins can present mysteries, especially custom jobs. This pressed glass stein with a bnody by Sächsische Glasfabrik has a jporcelain lid insert. The insert has the Greek letters Phi Gamma Delta and is presumably for that fraternity, though it's not in their colors. Below that is, in script, a, wun. I can find nothing on this that makes sense as either a, wun or awun. On the underside of the insert is, in script, "John F. Ringwald - Heidelberg 1929.
On the bottom in small script is "J Rohin Heidelberg". This is prsumably the name of the artist or company. Phi Gamma Delta has a couple of chapters in Canada but other than that they have no chapters or colonies outside the U.S. The thumblift here depicts a traditional German student. I can only surmise that an American student who was a member of Phi Gamma Delta took a trip to Heiderberg and was taken with the German student societies similarity to American fraternities and had this stein made.
