Original Salmenbräu Rheinfelden Brauerei Steinkrug.
This is an etched or incised 0.4 L. brewery stein made in Germany by Reinhold Merkelbach around 1900.
It is 6" to the top of the pewter thumb-lift which is attached to the handle through a 5 ring hinge.
The Salmenbrau brewery was started in Rheinfelden, Switzerland, in 1799, and lasted almost 200 years as an independent. So much interesting and rich history on this brewery. See links below for overview.
Incised brewers star with salmon fish.
Marks on base and inside of lid.
Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or hairlines, but a bit of play in hinge. Also brown discoloration spot lower center, left side. It just adds to its character, which this stein has plenty of!
