R. Merkelbach 788 - Various Subjects

Reinhold Merkelbach - mold 788

From the collection of Randy Satterfield

Mold 488 is one of Merkelbach's various subjects steins. In this case the decoration (transfer with hand painted highlights) illustrates the final scene from Josef Viktor von Scheffel's poem "The Trumpeter of Säckingen”, usually called "Farewell". In this case it's not utilizing the common source of the engraving by Carl Schweninger. Here the Trumpeter is mounted and facing left instead of stading and facing right.
