Steinzeug-Industrie made steins 1878-and is still in business today, this "art nouveau design" has a 1/2L capacity mark and mold #204 under the handle. It's about 4-1/2" tall and has a makers mark on the bottom. The lid is engraved with "Gesangsquartett Rheingold s/l Karl Schmarzemholzer" (Vocal quartet Rheingold s/l Karl Schmarzemholzer).
. art nouveau started around 1880 and became popular 1890-1910. It was required to have Germany or Made in Germany on all exports. This stein may have been made for the German market and somehow made it was to the USA.
