Merkelbach & Wick made steins 1872-1921. This "Griffins with Coat-of-Arms" is about 6" tall with the mold #446 in a large circle under the handle. 1/2L capacity mark and the circular M&W logo on the base, but no Germany. In 1887 it was required to have Germany or Made in Germany on all exports. This was certainly an export stein for Charles Zoller, a brewer, furniture sales and reupholstering store and a pioneer in the Kodachrome photography from New York. It has compliments of Charles Zoller on the pewter lid.
