Merkelbach & Wick made beer steins 1879-1921. This stein is about 5-1/4" tall and has a 1/2L capacity mark, and a hard to see M&W logo on the base. It has a mold #446 under the handle with S11, but no Germany on it. The pewter lid has "Compliments of Charles Zoller. And the centerpiece is two lions brewing beer. Charles Zoller gave out quite a few different complementary steins. He was a Furniture and Upholstery dealer in Rochester New York. He also sold Brewery supplies, and he may have been the first American photographer to work with autochromes. His Charles Chaplin (silent movie star) portrait still transfixes us a full century after it was made.
