Early Freising factory, pre-Hauber & Reuther, narrow-bodied character stein. Made by Schön & Borho between January 1,1876 & Sept 1,1876. They were the only manufacture that used a large 10mm size mold number. The "L" in the capacity mark does not have a serif (horizontal top line) until 1882 when it became Hauber & Ruther. Designed by Maximilian Borho. It's about 7-1/2" tall. This handle with a loop at each end was only used in the 1876 through the 1878 production periods. Many of the early character steins did not have a thumblift. This Monk stein has been seen with different heads.
