A design by Richard Riemerschmid, ca 1902.
Two variations in decor exist. First variation is a smooth design, with only the curl over the body. This variation carries the mold number 1729g, where the g stands for "glatt", meaning smooth. The other variation is marked 1729 without the g, and this is the version that is more lusciously decorated with the leaves over the whole body.
The jugs came in sizes 3 and 4.5 liter, and there are steins in the sizes 0.4 and 0.5 liter. The jugs and steins were supplied in blue-gray color and in the so-called "braun-geflammt" color.
Merkelbach also produced a version of the 0.4 liter stein specifically for the Königsbacher Brewery for the occasion of the 1904 "Bockfest" in Coblenz.
This model has also been reproduced by Merkelbach in 1982 in a limited edition of 300 pieces, and again in 1989 in a limited edition of 3000 pcs.
