The company Villeroy & Boch have produced a wide range of porcelain plaques around the start of the 20th century.
Many of these plaques were made to end up as part of a serving tray. A wooden frame with handles would be mounted around the plaque. Most of this plaques were ornately decorated in a historismus style.
The serving tray pictured here measures about 30 x 20 centimeters. The verse in the decor reads "Kom nach Osten, kom nach Westen; zu Haus ist am besten." (transl.: East or west; home is best)
The back of the plaque is marked only with the decor number (2104).
