My First Stein

Marzi & Remy - mold 2027

From the collection of Anthony Kirkland

It's kinda hard to see, but that is the impressed "shield" mark with "M" over "R". There is also what appears to be just a circle, the number 10, and what I am assuming is the mold number, 2027.

The other Marzi & Remy stein I've seen with the mold number 2027 has different artwork on the sides. Is that normal?

What I know for certain:
Marzi & Remy
Made in 1964 or later (probably ‘68 - ‘72)
Cream stoneware
Pewter lid
Souvenir Stein for the German tourist industry

What I would like to find out:
What is a closer approximation of the exact year?
Who was the designer?
What do the hallmarks on the bottom mean - other than the "shield" with the "M" over the "R"?
How much were they originally sold for?

If you can offer any more information, please share

Hello Anthony,

Your stein was indeed produced by Marzi & Remy. The listing that you found that was attributed to Reinhold Merkelbach was not correct.

Your stein was produced as a souvenir stein for the German tourist industry.

Thank you so much. That gets rid of some of the confusion for sure. Do you happen to know a more exact year it might have been produced? I know it was after 1964, because that's when they started using the "shield" hallmark.
Also, I noticed on the other listing that the side panels had different artwork, but the same mild number. Is that common practice? Thank you again.

Anthony
