A fayence stein, dated on the lid with the year 1840.
Produced in Hannoversch-Münden (which is a city in the northern part of Germany). See this article on these fayence steins by William Hamer: [link]
Height of the body: 17cm.
Height including lid and thumbnail: 22cm.
Diameter at the base: 10.7cm
Inside the pewter lid is a pewter mark, consisting of a flag and the initials HM, which I expect stand for Hannoversch-Münden.
