Notice the thumblift is acorn design but then a smooth cap on top. Really cool.

“MUNCHEN” engraved on the other side

This stein is in excellent condition; everything is tight and bright!

Original pewter lid - solid and heavy!

Really nice patina that doesn’t come through in pictures

Super clean and well cared for!

No mark underneath lid

Recessed base. No impressed marks. Only “610” in blue ink which I don’t think is an identification mark?

Brauerei Schwabingerbräu München

Note: Schwabingerbräu München was named after the Munich district of Schwabing, not Swabia.

This German brewery steinkrug is special to me; it’s among a select group of breweries. My goal is to add one or more steinkrugs to my collection of the breweries listed below.

In 1900, there were 22 breweries in Munich. With their newly invented trademarks, they positioned themselves in a cutthroat competition from which only a few winners remain to this day. Even the big names have mostly been sold to international corporations that retain the "Munich Beer" label for marketing reasons. With "Hofbräu" and "Augustiner," Munich now has only one state-owned and one private brewery. The 22 Munich breweries around 1900 were called:

As of 2 April 2025, the following numbers are still waiting to be added to my collection: 2, 6, 12, 18, 20, 21, and 22. I am specifically talking about the 1/2L, 0,5L, 0,4L, 4/10L…capacities from that period, 1880s to early 1900s.
