Beautiful Brauerei Gebr. Maisel, Ansbach, steinkrug.
I’m working to learn more about this stein, particularly its age and its connection to Ansbach. The brewery logo, both on face of stein and on lid, I believe holds some clues. Interestingly, the brewery logo design on this stein (fancy letters GM superimposed over each other), is identical to the design “inside a star” that we today recognize as Maisel’s logo. This stein does not have the star; only the letters GM inside a fancy shield. See pictures.
Does the heart shape design engraved on thumblift provide additional details? And of course, the 5 ring hinge type? There are no marks on base or anywhere else that I could find. Lastly, I believe the incised 0,5L and calibration mark also helps date this stein somewhat, if I can find that information, again.
We lived in Ansbach, (2007-2010). Ansbach is a beautiful Bavarian city where you could easily find a true Bavarian specialty wheat beer: “Maisel Weisse Original”, or any of their other style of beers and brew varieties.
This German brewery has a very interesting, long, and storied history that you can find in links below.
Brewery History:
Brauerei Gebr. Maisel has always been built around family. The brewery has been crafting quality ales and lagers since 1887, when it was founded in Upper Franconian Bayreuth by brothers Hans and Eberhard Maisel, whose own family brewing history could be traced back another century.
