This steinkrug is special for another reason.
This was my favorite beer while stationed in Schwaebisch Hall, West Germany, the first time, 1985-1989. One day I went to the local beer warehouse wanting to tatste a German beer. I was wandering around for a bit, mesmerized by the perfectly stacked crates of beer sky high, clueless about what I was looking at. An older gentleman who worked in the warehouse approached me, I presume asking how he could help me. I don’t think the worker spoke any English and I didn’t speak any German. We didn’t have iPhones and translate apps yet. lol. However, somehow I was able to communicate that I wanted a Pilsner that was a favorite by the locals. He immediately walked me over to the crates of “Monchshof Original”. He popped one open and handed it to me; I took a drink and it was amazing! I gave him a thumbs up and a smile, then shook his hand. I said: “super”! He then grabbed one for himself, popped that flippy top, and we drank a cold Monchshof Original sitting on a couple of beer crates. We didn’t speak a word. - we simply enjoyed drinking our beer together. I took two crates of Monchshof Original home with me, and a memory to last a lifetime. Prost!
Seller, Marco, asked me to please take good care of it, “It’s a special one”! Indeed it is!!
As always, I welcome and appreciate any additional information. History, story, maker???
