Cold War Stein

Uit de verzameling van Randy Satterfield

The front of the stein has the insignia of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing, surmounting a banner with Bitburg Air Base and Germany. Above it the stein is named to Gwen. The left side has a painting of a F-105 Thunderchief. The right side has the insignia of the 23rd Tactical Fighter Squadron. The finial is a F-105 and the thumblift features the United States seal. The stein is not dated, however the 36th recied it's Thuds in 1961 and they were replaced by F-4D Phantom II's in 1966. The overall desigh of the stein would place the stein in this period as well. The 23rd recieved two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards during this period. Usually when a Cold War stein is tamed to a female with only a first name, she is the spouse of the military person ordering the stein. That is the case according to the history I have of the stein. Her hlusband, who ordered the stein and possibnly another named to him, was a pilot, presumably of a F-105.
