The Wiesenwirte Festkrug, or the Oktoberfest Tent Host beer stein series began in 2002 and they were produced as 1-liter mugs and steins. The 2016 version was designed by Tita Gronemeyer and produced by the firm Schilz. The pewter lid from 2016 celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) which restricted the ingredients in beer to barley, hops, and water.
The main characters of the central scene are the Wittelsbacher brothers, Duke Ludwig X and Wilhelm IV, who ruled Bavaria when the Purity Law was enacted in 1516. The new law not only regulated the content of the beer to just water, hops and barley, but also the amount that could be charged for beer.
Additional images around the central scene depict the various stages in the brewing process. The names of the 14 beer tents and the names of the hosts are listed as well. The information on the bottom of the stein translates to: “Oktoberfest Host Stein 2016-Limited Edition-Made in Germany- 500 Years Bavarian Purity Law-Idea and Design Tita Gronemeyer-Number 2609-Handmade”.
