M&W made steins 1872-1921, this stein is about 5" to the top of the lid, it has a 0,4L capacity mark and a very hard to see circular M&W logo. "Lutherschenke Holzminden" is on the front and "Gustav Hess Jr Kaiser" is on the lid. The five ring closed pewter hinge with the thumb lift on the lid was used around 1850 according to what I read. I think it is just an early M&W stein made 1872-1900, maybe the lid was changed an the pewterer just used an old style hinge. I think Luther-Schenke was a small string of restaurants because I have seen different pictures of them. And some of their advertisement's have pictures of a man, and he looks a lot like "Martin Luther". Holzminden is a town in Germany. Martin Luther was born in Eisleben Germany Nov 10th 1483 and died Feb 18th 1546 in Eisleben. If you have anymore info on this stein please leave me a message.
