Early Freising factory, pre-Hauber & Reuther stein, designed by Maximilian Borho. Made by Schön & Hauber or the Albert Hauber Co between Sept 1,1876 and 1882. It's about 6-1/2" to the top of the pewter lid. This handle was only used in the 1876 through the 1878 production periods. This one has a closed 5 ring pewter hinge and no serif (horizontal line over the L) on the capacity mark. The serif was added when it became Hauber & Reuther. “Vonn Fasas zum Krug vom Krug zum Schlund das ist gesund.” (From barrel to stein, from stein to throat, that is healthy.) This is a piece of a serving set, the master stein or pitcher with the same #196 is 3L.
