A stoneware stein, made for the Hofbrau brewery in Munich, last quarter of the 19th century.
The stein's body is 'combed', meaning that there are vertical lines in the clay for decoration. The Hofbrau initials HB are carved into the clay before firing.
The capacity marking of 1 liter is situated on the front of the stein. The HB-logo is also embossed on the original pewter lid.
