This heavy stoneware stein is a so-called Masskrug. It has a heavy 3-ringed hinge and a thumblift in the shape of a horse. The cream-colored body of the stein has a combed finish, and there is a nicely detailed pewter footring.
The pewter lid is inscribed "Gluck und Segen der Landman" ('Luck and fortune for the farmer'). Some of the farmer's utensils are shown also.
The capacity is circa 1 liter. There is no capacity mark visible.
Total height is circa 24.5cm. Without the lid it's about 18.5 cm.
A fine example of a mid- to late 19th century Masskrug.
