Cold War Stein

Aus die Sammlung von Randy Satterfield

Plain pewter except for the engraving on the right side. It's named to Lt Colonel Vincent D. Ambrauskas. The patch above his name is puzzling. It has Spearhead along the bottom, this is the nickname for Third Armored Division, however other than Spearhead on the bottom the patch looks nothing like the 3rd Armored. I can't be positive that this is Cold War but that's most likely.

You are correct in that this is a Cold War Era stein. LTC Vincent Dambrauskas was Battalion Commander of the 143rd Signal Battalion from 1970 to 1971. From what I've been able to find the 143rd Signal Bn was assigned to the 3rd AD and were stationed in Frankfurt at Drake Kaserne.

Further research shows that Colonel Vincent Dambrauskas, USA Ret., served as the communications officer for the NMCC during the period 1973-76 and was the communications officer in the NMCC during the October 1973 Arab-Israeli War. NMCC stands for National Military Command Center. Colonel (Retired) Vinect Dambrauskas passed away in 2009 and is interred in the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona.
