After years of M&R collecting and recent reflecting over these steins, I've come to a conclusion. There are many of these style steins around, they are amost always Marzi and Remys, sometimes with the maker's mark but more often not. Sometimes no base markings but often a small four or five digit, black ink, mark that is hand written. All of these appear to be on a mold 990 body. It's my opinion that these represent decoration numbers, not mold numbers. TBSL has treated them as mold numbers but I believe that's a mistake. These steins are the only case of Marzi and Remy using decoration numbers to my knowledge, so it would be easy to assume that they are mold numbers.
